3 Top Tips for Finding the Best Preschool

Over the years, we’ve published loads of information on how to find the right preschool for your child, like 10 things to look for when choosing a preschool, as well as guidance for new parents on bringing up their kid like potty training tips. Parents across the Bay Area use this information to help with their decision and make family life that little bit easier. Recently, we thought “hey, wouldn’t it be a great idea to see what awesome tips our parents would like to share?” and that’s exactly what we did.

With camera and microphone in hand, Ima, a parent from our preschool in Oakland offered to share her top 3 tips for finding a play-based preschool.

  1. Make sure your kid enjoys the campus

Nothing is more important than your kid feeling safe and happy at preschool. One of the best ways to find out is to take your kid for a Stay N’Play or a tour as you’ll see them interact with other children and teachers. Also, if you  see your kid fitting in with the preschool environment, you'll feel more comfortable as a parent.

  1. Do a little bit of homework

We don’t mean scrolling through endless reviews from Care.com, Yelp, Facebook, and Google (although those certainly can help if you need some reassurance). Work more along the lines of checking the basics; don't forget, how you and your kid feel about the preschool is the most important thing.

3 things to check:

  • Is their website good? Does it show photos of the preschool? What do they have for lunch?
  • Is their license number published?
  • What experience do the teachers have?

  1. Make sure you’re comfortable

As preschools are often close-knit environments, ensure preschool is the right decision for you as a family and that you’re comfortable with the teachers.

Normally on a preschool tour, you’ll get a chance to speak to your kid’s potential teacher and quiz them on all things necessary. You can also see how the teacher naturally interacts with your kid – you may even pick up a thing or too!
