What's on the Menu: Food Served at Kids Konnect
Children accelerate their development during the preschool years and their early learning environment can have a massive impact on the rest of their life.
Kids Konnect, with our play-based curriculum, looks after our student's educational development and needs, getting them ready for elementary school. However, we also focus on providing a nurturing and healthy environment -- and food, as well as exercise and movement, plays a major role setting children up for a great adult life.
Included in your tuition is 2 healthy snacks and a healthy, filling lunch.
Kids Konnect meals don’t contain heavily processed foods as we try to lower our student’s sugar and fat intake -- sorry, no Twinkies here!
This can be anything from cereal and milk in the morning, quesadillas with carrots for lunch and wheat thins with an apple in the afternoon.
We find a good balanced diet keeps the children healthy, happy and thriving throughout the preschool day.
Example Kids Konnect Menu
Kids Konnect's menus change every month to keep the ingredients fresh and stop the healthy food from becoming boring.
We try to provide the 3 necessary food groups -- carbohydrates, fruit & vegetables, and protein -- and foods that are low in sodium, processed sugars and fat.
Here is an example of a Kids Konnect menu for a week:
When you enroll, please let us know if your child or children have any allergies and intolerances so we can make the right changes and take the necessary precautions.
Why Kids Konnect encourages healthy eating in preschoolers
Here are a few good reasons why Kids Konnect emphasizes a healthy diet for our students.
A good diet:
- Stabilizes their energy
- Improves their concentration
- Evens out their moods
- Helps maintain a healthy weight
- Helps prevent mental health conditions such as anxiety
- Helps stop the onset of disease
Eating healthy foods can help children (and adults!) have appetite control and maintain a healthy body weight.
Fighting Childhood Obesity
Data from the Nutrition Reviews in 2015 show that children’s diets change dramatically during the preschool years, and spikes in added sugar content last until children are moody teenagers.
Malnutrition in young children is also responsible for obesity in mid-childhood and beyond. Instead of focusing on body image, and potentially creating other issues in later life, we believe it’s important to encourage healthy eating from young ages.
Eating more fruit and vegetables at a younger age also encourages a healthier and more active immune system. They’ll get fewer colds and flu.
Better Brain Function
A healthy diet helps young children perform better at preschool and school. Children with good diets concentrate better and are able to understand tasks better. Kids Konnect has made healthy diets part of our school readiness initiative on purpose. Foods that help the brain function better include wholegrains (full of fiber), fish (Omega-3) and peanut butter (full of Vitamin E). Now go and grab a PB&J sandwich!
