5 Fun Hacks for Preschooler Activities

Play-based learning is key to your child's development and needn't be difficult to do at home. Keep your preschooler entertained all day long with cheap, easy, tidy activities you can do on the fly.

Here's five awesome activity hacks we found on YouTube perfect for any kid aged 2-6.

1. Make your own musical instruments

This video from DreamworksTV shows you how to make three homemade instruments. Before you know it, your family will have their very own set of Jamaican steel drums to accompany a rain stick and homemade harmonica. Want to create more than three instruments? Click here for instructions to make three more.

Play-based learning: Your preschooler can explore why different sized instruments make different sounds. Take this one step further by working with your preschooler to compose a simple rhythm for your musical maestros to follow.

 2. Take the stress out of arts and crafts in the home

In just over two minutes, WhatsUpMoms shows us how to take the messy stress out of doing arts and crafts at home with your preschooler.

Play-based learning: Teaching your kid the right scissor technique quickens cutting and decreases their chances of getting injured.

3. Jump around!

This activity hack can probably be only used once before your preschooler figures out what to do but moms and dads everywhere have found it a lifesaver.

Play-based learning: This hack is great for promoting teamwork. After a few attempts of your child being able to fetch the sticker with some jumping, position it just high enough that they can't reach it on their own. They should hopefully figure that they need to ask a friend for help.

4. Air powered car

This fun activity from SemiHigh Production shows you how to build a air powered car from a pop bottle, straws, and a balloon.

Play-based learning: This activity will help with reinforcing the  importance of paying attention to instructions to your child.

5. Make your own fake snow

This sensory activity is bound to make any preschooler jump with joy! All you need is baking soda and white conditioner.

Play-based learning: Get your preschooler involved from the start so they can see how it's made. Get them to make different shapes, sizes, and weights to advance this fun learning activity.
