5 At-Home Activities in the Bay Area This Holiday Season

At Kids Konnect, we’re hoping this holiday season provides some much needed relief from 2020. Normally, we would be out braving the crowds at Target, visiting Night Glows at the Zoo and hugging relatives. Unfortunately, much of this isn’t permitted under the Bay Area’s stay-at-home order.

However, we shouldn’t let this stop the festive cheer! There is still plenty of safe and secure must-do family activities you can tick off your holiday season bucket list at home. You can still keep your family busy even though your normal festive activities are off limits!

Kids Konnect thinks the following holiday season activities in the Bay Area will be perfect adventures for you and your little ones.

Experience the Dickens Fair

Organizers of the Dickens Fair are updating their website with new content weekly and they will bring new delights every weekend. Guests get free access to videos including a reading of The Christmas Carol, traditional Victorian songs (plus downloadable sheet music to join in), Punch & Judy puppet shows and children’s craft projects. You can also download some festive recipes you can make with your little ones such as cinnamon roasted almonds and brandied eggnog (adults only!). Home roasted chestnuts, anyone? Now-12/24.

Science at Home from CuriOdyssey

While San Mateo’s CuriOdyssey has temporarily closed its marvelous light show, they have a variety of at-home resources available. As you know, we’re big fans of STEAM learning at Kids Konnect, so feel free to do some cool and fun experiments during the Winter Break. On Now

SF Ballet: Nutcracker Online

You can stream SF Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker for a bit of festive culture in your living room. Plus, you can take a virtual tour of the opera house and even learn some of the steps of the choreography with your children in your living room. Now-12/31

Velveteen Rabbit On Demand

This year, families in the Bay Area can watch the witty and colourful production of the Velveteen Rabbit On Demand for a limited time only. The contemporary dance has festive costumes, beloved characters and an amazing amount of festive cheer. You can also purchase a Velveteen Rabbit activity book filled with mazes, quizzes and lots of entertaining activities. The activity book is available in English, Spanish and Chinese. Now-12/31

Homes for the Holidays with San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus

An annual delight in the Bay Area, SFGMC are celebrating the holidays from home this year. At this all-virtual concert, guests can expect upbeat, show-stopping numbers, choral numbers and modern twists on old favourites. This will all be done with SFGMC’s well-known flair and humour. A perfect holiday extravaganza! 12/24 at 5PM.

Bonus: Santa Cruz Holiday Lights and History Park Holiday Lights Drive-Through

If you really need to get out of the house, you can still experience festive light shows by visiting Santa Cruz Fairground, and History Park in San Jose. Your family can stay in your warm car as you drive past decked out trees and under lighted tunnels. If you’re visiting Santa Cruz Fairground, tune into the Holiday Lights radio station and enjoy some festive classics. History Park, now-1/3; Santa Cruz Fairground, now-12/20
