6 Activities to Do in Sacramento During the Final Weeks of Summer

If you’re beginning to run out of ideas for the final weeks of summer break, we’ve got you covered. We’ve put together a list of fun activities in Sacramento to keep every member of the family busy. Luckily, the city has plenty to offer to entertain little ones that don’t sit still for long. 

Check out some of our favorite things to do in Sacramento, from keeping cool at the water park to enjoying an adventure on board an historic steam train. There’s something for everyone! 



1. Enjoy a Day Out at Sacramento Zoo

 

 


You can’t beat a fun-filled day at the zoo this summer! Admire the beautiful landscaping, as you enjoy close views of exotic animals and learn more about these amazing creatures. It’s the perfect size for little ones with plenty of places to enjoy a snack or two. Don’t forget to hop aboard the zoo train before heading home.

2. Ride the Sacramento Southern Railroad

 


 

Jump on board the locomotive and take in the scenic views as you make your way along the Sacramento River. Lasting approximately 50 minutes, train obsessed little ones will enjoy looking out of the window as you chug by. 

It’s the perfect way to experience railroading from the beginning of the 20th century and a visit to the Railroad Museum will just add to the fun. Make sure you check the departure times online to avoid disappointment.

3. Cool Down at Raging Waters Sacramento

 

 

There’s no better way to enjoy the hot summer days than splashing in the sun. With attractions for all ages, little ones can enjoy the Treehouse Reef complete with 9 water slides suitable for children and the Shark Pool with a depth of 2ft. For the thrill seeking grown ups there are a lot of breath-taking slides to enjoy - if you’re brave enough!

4. Explore the Magical Fairytale Town

 

 

Our little one’s favorite fairy tales and nursery rhymes are brought to life in the 3.5 acre play park and outdoor children’s museum. Aimed to spark young children’s imaginations and creativity, they will love spotting the much loved characters as they make their way around each attraction. We’re sure grown ups will recognize a few too!

5. Enjoy a Picnic in McKinley Park

 


 

Pack your favorite snacks and head to Mckinley park to enjoy all it has to offer. With excellent play areas, soccer fields and tennis courts you’ll be spoilt for choice. There’s even a swimming and wading pool, so don’t forget your swimsuit to really make the most of the park. A trip to the nearby library on the way home is always a good idea to mix up your story selection.

6. Bounce at Rebounderz

 


 

Jump into the final weeks of summer in the toddler trampoline zone. To keep little ones safe they offer a dedicated area for those aged 4-years old and under. Explore the indoor play ground, open jump arena, air pit, basketball slam and the junior/floor ninja warrior course for a fun-filled afternoon. You will need to purchase a pair of Rebounderz grip socks for safety reasons that can be reused every time you go.
