What's on in San Mateo this August

Weekly Themes: My Body (Self-Awareness), Germs & Hygiene, Self-Help, Manners

This month, the children will be learning about self-awareness, germs, skills to help with independence, and manners! We will start off with learning about our bodies – what are all the parts to our body and what can we use them for? Some activities will include learning about how we keep our bodies to ourselves, tracing our entire body, what is inside of our bodies (bones!), and what we use our lungs for. These are all things you can discuss with your child at home as well!

The second week, the teachers will discuss what germs are and what it means to have good hygiene. It is important to have good hygiene because it keeps us healthy and away from all the yucky germs. The children will learn about how germs spread, why it is so important to wash your hands properly, and how to stay clean throughout our days at school. Please take the time to show your child how to wash their hands properly, which is something we regularly practice at school!

The third week, we will help the children gain skills to help themselves and be more independent. Some of these skills include putting on sweaters, jackets, fixing sleeves, and how to work with zippers or buttons. They will also work on pouring their own waters, cleaning their own faces, and even cutting their own foods. Please practice these skills with your child at home as well!

Lastly, we will work on having good manners and why it is so important to treat everyone with good manners. There will be charts about good manners vs. poor manners, arts and crafts, and even some fun role playing.
